TNS Mission

Our mission is to empower triathletes through a spirit of commitment, collaboration and contribution. TNS team members commit to our Program by setting specific training goals, adhering to a rigorous TNS Training regimen and pushing their limits to achieve their "Personal Bests." We cultivate a community atmosphere, encourage collaboration and promote team-work. We believe in a mantra of contribution to a greater good and "constant thought of others". Team members train for philanthropic causes and "give back" through their triathlon experiences. In subscribing to these core values, Team Next Step contributes portions of training fees to select community causes.

Team:

Brian Melekian, Head Coach
After years of marathon running, Brian took up triathlon on a challenge from a few friends. He entered a local race and, having no training, came in dead last in the swim. The very next day he signed up for an Ironman. Brian is no stranger to diving headfirst into challenges - in 1988 Brian was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor and successfully treated by Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. He had to learn how to walk again, which led to those marathons, triathlons, and twenty years after his treatment, becoming head coach of the CHLA Triathlon team. This typifies the spirit that Brian brings to his coaching: giving back, community, collaboration and team work. The group is stronger than the individual. Since that first local triathlon, Brian has coached himself through an Ironman and several podium finishes, including a spot at the 2007 70.3 World Championships, a 2nd place Age Group finish at the Pasadena Triathlon, and 4th place AG finish at the highly competitive Nautica Malibu Triathlon. Brian is a US Cycling Federation Level 3 and USA Triathlon Level 1 licensed coach.

Max Miller, Coach
Max Miller was once a three pack a day smoker and weighed 220 pounds. Years after quitting smoking he took up yoga. He changed his eating habits and dropped forty pounds. He took up running, which lead to marathons, marathons led to triathlons and in November of 2009 he finished his first Ironman. Max brings years of hands-on experience in the practical challenges and methods of making fundamental life changes towards healthy athleticism. As a professional writer and technology consultant he brings an ability to translate complex technical data to the layperson. He is a USAT Level 1 triathlon coach and is Assistant Coach for the Childrens Hospital triathlon team. In 2009 he was the fifth highest fundraiser across the entire field, personally raising more than $11,000 for CHLA.
